NYC

The last few weeks have been absolutely crazy! And, at the same time, offered a much needed break from the stresses and mundane actions of job hunting and apartment hunting for the summer. I headed east to the other side of the United States, to New Jersey, to spend time with family for a few weeks.

Of course, took all my photography equipment with me (I travel so my photography gear gets to come on as carry on baggage with me wherever I go - don’t trust it to stay in one piece when I’ve seen what happens to surfboards and snowboards when they go in the hold…)

The first three weeks saw a lot of sleeping, eating, family fun and paddle boarding on the Jersey shore, with a few trips to Philadelphia and finally, a two day trip to New York before flying back to South Lake Tahoe to surprise my girlfriend a day early (which, she actually knew about the whole time and tricked me into thinking, which resulted in me being the surprised one when she came out of hiding from behind the seat when I got in the car).

New York is incredible. Not somewhere I would want to live, but it’s absolutely amazing to see places you’ve only ever seen on TV and in movies in real life. It’s surreal, being in the biggest city in the world offers anonymity from the crowd and a surprising amount of peace and quiet.

I tried a few new things and stepped out of my comfort zone with my photography as well, and I will definitely be continuing with these new skills. And getting above the city really gives scale as to just how big it really is.

It’s nice exploring, but definitely nice to be back.

Peace.

Josh
