THINKING OUT LOUD
Just a thought - You can have a perfect plan, everything great on paper but it’s basically pointless until you get your ass out of the chair and act.
Hear me out.
As a result of the crazy, turbulent, balls-to-the-wall life I lead when I travel and am working on my business, I have met a lot of humans. I have met a lot of photographers. I have met people who put 180% into everything they do and succeed. I have met people who do the bare minimum and succeed because they were in the right place at the right time. Photographers who have less skill and knowledge than others in the industry and still seem to be succeeding and making money with their images. Not that art and money necessarily go together (maybe a post for another time), but everyone has to pay bills somehow right?
But, no matter how good you are or how much or how little work you put into the planning and the back end of everything to help you succeed, I think there comes a time when planning needs to be put aside and you just have to DO.
From a personal standpoint, I am a perfectionist. I like everything just so and exactly how I envision - maybe a good thing for business, maybe not. And I know spending time on projects and the back end of the business and not seeing results or the end vision how I planned puts me in a funk. Happened this week. Everything kinda hit a little bit and all happened to arrive at once, and I got frustrated and demotivated. But I also then self-reflected and realised that I haven’t gone shooting for close to a month now. Something that makes me so happy to do, creating, hasn’t happened. Sure, I’ve been planning and making theoretically, but nothing practical. Nothing tangible.
The aim of this blog is to be real and to share as many aspects of The Liquid Collective and the guy who runs it (me!) as I can. And I get to this point as I am typing and am starting to wonder whether I’m writing this for an audience or if I’m writing it to help myself. But whatever the reason, I’m starting to getting my ass out of the chair.
So.
If you want to shoot together, let me know.
If you have a cool project, collaboration or issue that needs greater public awareness, hit me up and we should see what we can create together.
If you want me to talk in detail about something on our YouTube or social media, send me a message.
Stop planning and start doing. Start by just getting your ass up and out of the chair. I know I will be.
Peace,
Josh
